Lois Statham Simons, played an important role in the founding of the physical therapy program at Georgia State University. Her husband and donor, Dr. David G. Simons and Georgia State support the endowed funds to provide support for faculty education, research and scholarships.
Gordon Seagraves Cummings Memorial Scholarship/Award
Professor Gordon Cummings taught in the Physical Therapy program for 27 years. This award recognizes the individual whose work, like that of Professor Cummings, promotes self-learning, critical thinking, caring, and competence.
MaryLou R. Barnes Faculty Award
This award was established as an unendowed faculty award fund to provide faculty development awards to faculty in the department who show potential leadership in teaching, service and scholarship.
Virgil Jacobs Memorial Award
In memory of Dr. Virgil Jacobs, former anatomist in the physical therapy program, this award is given to the student who best exemplifies the qualities of intelligence, compassion, fairness, honesty, and sincerity in addition to outstanding scholarly anatomical competence.
